What is an Implant and When is it Performed?
What is an Implant?
Unfortunately, there come days when we cannot save our teeth that have decayed for many reasons. Neither fillings nor root canals help anymore. Since we cannot be toothless, medicine has not been idle and has quickly intervened in this matter. An implant is an artificial tooth root made of suitable material, placed in the jawbone to restore the function and aesthetics of missing teeth. Modern dental implants, which are newly being applied, are truly the closest alternative to natural teeth. Compared to bridges and dentures, it can be described as a tooth transplantation that provides better chewing and speech, and also looks natural visually. Especially in recent years, implants preferred by many patients yield very good results when diagnosed correctly and applied by the right professionals. While implants were only of one type when first used, there are now various types, but the most commonly used and preferred by patients are the screw-shaped ones.
When is an Implant Performed?
It can be applied as one or more teeth, as deemed appropriate by your doctor. The thickness and height of the jawbone at the site where the implant will be placed are also important for implant use. However, if suitable, the implant can be applied to the patient. It can be applied to patients of almost any age, as long as they are not too young, meaning their bone development is complete. Implant screws have a certain width and structure. Therefore, as I mentioned earlier, the structure of the jawbone is very important. The gums must also be completely healthy throughout the time the implant remains in the mouth. General or local anesthesia can be used during the implant placement operation, according to the patient's request. The pain felt in the evening after the operation is similar to the pain felt after a tooth extraction and can be managed with painkillers. The duration of this somewhat expensive procedure is about half an hour per tooth. Individuals using implants must pay special attention to oral hygiene. The habit of regular tooth brushing must be followed.
